Hallways, Landings and Stairs

Much more than just a corridor that leads to other places, a hall is an important part of your home and it’s definitely worthy of your decorating attention.

Hallways are the first thing we see as we walk through the door and are arguably the most important rooms in the house, setting the tone for what is to come. Unfortunately they are spaces in our homes that are often neglected - well not anymore!

Now is the time to give our hallways a well-deserved treat by introducing an injection of design and colour! The right paint colour or wallpaper can brighten and lift the darkest or smallest of spaces. The lighter the colour, the more it reflects available light – the darker the colour, the more it will absorb the light. So if you want to make a hallway seem larger you will need to go for lighter shades.

Colours will play a big part in creating the right mood and neutrals with a flash of strong accents will accentuate the feeling of cosiness.

Flooring, more often than not, needs to be hard wearing and practical to accommodate heavy footfall but this doesn’t mean it has to be boring. Carpet is ideal as it prevents noise from travelling and gives an instant warm welcome. Include elegant storage to cut down on clutter and use the walls to display an art collection. Keep furniture to a minimum to let the floor take centre stage.
