The most exciting trends for 2018

Axminster Carpets might have been around for over 250 years, but we’re still recognised as international leaders in carpets and interiors trends. Don’t get us wrong – we’ll always have a thing for the tried-and-tested classics (like our ever-popular Simply Natural). But we still like to keep our finger on the pulse of what’s new and exciting. From the latest trends to the most exciting innovations, you can trust us to deliver the very best for your home or business.

This autumn, we’ve taken inspiration from global events like Paris Design Week and London Design Festival. Days of scouring stalls, attending talks and reading blogs have given us a good feel for what’s going to be big in 2018. Spoiler: it’s going to be an exciting year for design. We can’t wait!

Comfort is king

One of the most hotly-tipped trends is comfort. This was especially the case at the renowned MAISON&OBJET in Paris Design Week, where there was even a dedicated “Comfort Zone”! Think soft, luxurious textures, gentle colours and enveloping furniture. Comfort is emerging as a crucial element of interior design with curves replacing harsh lines and relaxation becoming the number one priority for consumers.

“Wool carpets make a room feel tailored. Town or country, it makes it feel cosy.” – Kit Kemp, Firmdale Hotels, at Decorex 2017.

One impactful way to get this look is with a soft carpet, paired with a comfortable chair and plenty of scatter cushions. Why not try our Shoreditch, which guarantees a feeling of comfort and cosiness, without sacrificing on style. It looks just as good as it feels!

The Wool Renaissance

We were really excited when we first saw the seminar programme for Decorex this year. Why? One of the key talks was about the so-called wool renaissance! It goes without saying that we are big supporters of wool here at Axminster Carpets. We proudly use 100% locally sourced British sheep’s wool in our carpets and have long been advocates of wool's incredible properties. So, to hear it being described as 'the must-have fibre for interiors' was like music to our ears!

We were eagerly sat in the front row for this talk, hosted by Country Life’s Giles Kime. Among the expert panel were representatives from the Campaign for Wool, Firmdale Hotels and more. They spent an hour discussing the many benefits of wool and why it’s going to be the most sought-after fibre for 2018.

“Wool carpets perform well, look good for longer and bring many positive aspects to the home.” – Bridgette Kelly, Campaign for Wool, at Decorex 2017.

Key amongst their discussion was the use of wool in carpets (our ears perked up at this). From its health and safety benefits and environmental sustainability to its sheer beauty and unrivalled softness…it’s clear that wool carpets will go from strength to strength over the next few years.

These are just a few of the exciting trends that are tipped for 2018. Make sure you follow us on Instagram and Facebook, so you can stay on top of what’s going to be big. One thing is for sure – it’s going to be an exciting year for interiors.
