CARPET
TEXTURES
Carpet is a much more technologically advanced product than
most people realise. Developments in fibres and yarns, dying,
manufacturing and finishing, have enabled us to make products
to suit everyone's expectations, in terms of performance and
look.
There
are two main types of carpet used in UK homes - woven
and tufted.
WOVEN:
There
are two main types of woven carpet - Axminster and Wilton.
Axminster
carpets are produced with a velvet finish and offer extremely
good pattern definition though they do also make excellent
plain carpets, (try our Moorland Heather Plains Collection).
Wilton, the oldest method of weaving, offers extremely good
dimensional stability and a wealth of attractive texture effects.
TUFTED:
Most
carpet sold in the UK is tufted and predominantly twist pile.
Recent advances, have enabled a broad range of styles and
textures to be produced. The technology is based on the principle
of inserting yarn into a backing fabric to form cut or loop
tufts. The application of a secondary backing fabric with
latex adhesive produces a dimensionally stable product with
a very good tuft bind. Tufting produces a wide range of plain
twists and loops.
