Axminster
Encore at the Royal Albert Hall
Axminster
Carpets has successfully completed the second installation
of bordered carpets at the Royal Albert Hall.
This
award winning installation called upon all of Axminster
Carpets knowledge and expertise in bespoke contract carpet
projects to ensure the results met the demands of this prestigious
location.
Axminster
is well known for producing intricate ground designs with
integral borders utilising the un-matched capabilities of
computer controlled jacquard Axminster looms, and the Royal
Albert Hall installation was no exception.
The
numerous hurdles that Axminster Carpets had to overcome
to achieve the final dramatic results demonstrate the skill,
precision and accuracy of Axminster Carpets design team.
Briefed
to produce approximately 4000sqm of bordered carpets for
the rooms, corridors, stairs and landings in a Victorian
design and border with complimentary outfill, the initial
challenge was to ensure that the concert halls famous oval
shaped corridors were fitted with bordered carpet with no
recesses. This task was made more complicated as the oval
horseshoe was not symmetrical, a problem solved by producing
three tiers in different shapes.
Added
to this, Axminster Carpets design team, aided by Linney-Cooper
contract installers, had to measure, to the highest degree
of accuracy, two under stair bar areas, and allow for the
fact that they were still under construction.
Furthermore,
all the installation had to be carried out while the Royal
Albert Hall still hosted events and rehearsals, meaning
the carpet had to be laid during the night with military
precision.
The
installation specified an Axminster with an 80% wool 20%
nylon blend. The yarn, spun in the company's own Buckfast
spinning mill incorporated a majority British Wool blend
component and the company's own Drysdale fleece for resilience,
lasting good looks and exceptional hard wear substantially
the same blend as in the previous installation supplied
by Axminster some eight years ago, ensuring comfort, acoustic
and safety qualities continue to be enjoyed by the patrons
of the Royal Albert Hall.
