Recycling waste carpet
We are committed to minimising our impact on the environment, so we have already come up with one clever way of dealing with the waste material from our manufacturing processes; we make our underlay out of it!
Axfelt, which is one of the finest underlays around, is made from 100% recycled waste materials and means that we reduce our waste output by hundreds of tons a year.
We are also actively involved in discussions with compost manufacturers regarding the use of our residual waste materials as ingredients in environmentally sound growing composts.

However, it may well be that right now there is an old carpet that needs to be disposed of safely. Especially since taking it to the local tip or just hoping that your retailer might do that for you is most definitely not the best answer for the environment.
Each year 500,000 tonnes of carpet waste is buried in UK landfills. Increasingly businesses, householders and local authorities are looking for better alternatives but new technologies and markets for carpet recyclate are needed to ensure that this growing demand for carpet recycling services can be met. Carpets are made from natural and synthetic fibres, which still have a value once the carpet is no longer wanted; they can be used in a wide range of applications from sports surfaces to insulation.
Of course there are some simple home-based ways of re-using old carpet, which are ecologically sound and could prove so useful that external means of recycling are not required. Here are a few ideas:
